Breakfast Oat Porridge

Oat Meal

I was never a fan of oats, maybe because it’s something I never ate while growing up but have come to appreciate it more as an adult. What I have not sampled yet, is the overnight soaked oats which is next on my radar after having done these cooked porridges for a while. My kids however call this porridge “mummy’s porridge” and they wouldn’t even taste it they surely don’t know what they are missing 😄. Hopefully as they grow older, they will appreciate it as I have come to. What I love mostly about this porridge is that it’s so filling and one would not need to add something else, especially if you take this as part of your morning meals and are mindful of your health. Hopefully I will make time to try the overnight soaked oats meal with yoghurt and fruit and hopefully try the savoury oatmeal too. Seen a couple of these recipes for savoury version which have eggs, mushrooms and vegetables.

For now let’s get cooking the sweet version of this porridge.

Ingredients

Instructions

In a pan, add your rolled oats

Add the butter , sugar and cinnamon.

Cook this on low for a minute until all the oats are coated with the ingredients.

Next add your milk or water.

Keep stirring and cook on low heat for ten to 15 mins until the oats soften and you have a porridge like consistency.

You can keep checking the consistency by either adding more water or milk.

Taste to check for seasoning.

Serve warm

Notes

You can serve this porridge with a side of fruits, raisins, or even caramelised bananas which is usually my to go because we always have bananas handy. Can serve with plain coffee or eat it on its own as it is.
